Your Location
Edenton, NC
Edenton is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. In recent years Edenton has become a popular retirement location and a destination for heritage tourism. Edenton served as the second official capital of North Carolina, during the colonial era as the Province of North Carolina, though other than housing the governor's official residence, it did not otherwise house any other governmental functions. It served as capital from 1722 to 1743, when it was moved to Brunswick. The town was the site of the Edenton Tea Party, a protest organized by several Edenton women in 1774 in solidarity with the organizers of the Boston Tea Party.
Neighborhood highlights: The Robert Price house is located on Gale street on the north east area of historic Edenton, walking distance to all that historic Edenton has to offer.
Getting around: The house's location makes walking the best choice to get around if you're physically able. Alternatively, parking downtown is typically open and always free. There is also a public FREE EV charger in the parking lot by the waterfront.
Bring your bike for an alternate mode of transportation.

About Modal:
The space
The main house is a classic side hall layout with living (with smart TV), library/game room with record player and a vinyl collection, kitchen, dining room, and half bath on the first floor. Two bedrooms and a full bathroom are on the second floor.
The spacious outdoor deck with seating area, gas-fired chimenea, and outdoor dining, connects what we affectionately call the "cottage" to the main house. The cottage is a cool space with an additional two double beds, comfy seating area, smart TV, and full bathroom. The cottage has its own heating and cooling system.
The two spaces together make for a great extended family stay where some separation is appreciated some of the time. The cottage is also a great place for people with mobility limitations to stay with only one step up onto the deck to the cottage door.
I employ a professional cleaner and I share the cost of the cleaning with you to provide them a living wage and provide you a thorough cleaning between guests.
If you are bringing a dog or two, please remember to include them when you're filling in your guest details at the time of booking.
Guest access:
You'll have full access to the main house, cottage, front and back yards during your stay. The entire property will be your home away from home.
The back yard is fully fenced, great for dog-friendly travel!
The only camera on site is the Ring doorbell next to the front door and is only reviewed in case of an issue.

History of the house:
The Robert Price House was built circa 1886, according to a 2007 report from the National Register of Historic Places.
The house has been returned to the look and feel Robert Price created when he built it. The gingerbread roof and hip-roof porch once again face the road. When workers took the modern siding off the building, they found the original wooden siding — damaged, but largely intact.
During renovations, workers found family portraits behind the mantle in the living room. That and a bottle of whiskey imported from Canada with an Old Crow label on it—almost certainly bootleg whiskey from Prohibition.
Price, according to the 2007 National Register of Historic Places report, was the son of “a free black carpenter named Joseph Price (who) purchased a lot where his son, Robert Price, also a carpenter, would build himself a residence, ca. 1886.” Price was one of 17 Black carpenters listed in the 1880 census in Edenton.
I am thrilled to keep the history of this home alive and welcome visitors to Edenton to tour the historical town, shop it's many local retail stores, and enjoy good food with good people. Your support enables us to continually maintain the historic details of the home. Welcome!

During your stay
Supplies
We provide you with a starter set of paper products which should be enough for shorter stays. For longer stays, we ask that you bring or purchase additional supplies.
Quirks of the house
The old house has old windows so during extreme temperatures the heat pumps can struggle to keep up. Please be gentle and ease the thermostat up/down until you're comfortable. The floors are uneven in several places. Please watch your step.
A few key windows are operable in the house. The two over the kitchen sink, and one in each bedroom for fire escape in the case of emergency. All windows in the cottage are operable.
Toilets
Please do not overload toilets before flushing. Use toilet paper, not paper towels or napkins. Refrain from flushing any other unusual things down the toilet.
Heating/cooling
There is a thermostat on each level of the house, one by the 1/2 bath and one by the full bath upstairs. These are typical thermostats in terms of controls.
The unit in the cottage is controlled by a remote located on the wall under the unit. Set the desired and reasonable temperature and wait. It doesn't respond immediately. Check back in to ensure it is heating or cooling as you desire. The instruction booklet is located in the TV cabinet in the cottage.
Deck
There is an extra propane tank at the back side of the cottage in case the fire pit tank runs out. The grill is available for your use. Please supply your own charcoal.
Cottage
If the toilet water rises and then slowly drains when flushed, this usually means the outlet that runs the underground pump has been tripped. To reset, go to the right side of the cottage exterior near the wooden box and push the "Reset" button on the middle of the outlet.
Potential Noise
Friday and Saturday nights can be noisier due to small town events like baseball, football games, and the popular vinyl night downtown. Things typically quiet down by 11 PM. There are white noise devices in the bedrooms.
